Elizabeth McCracken

1966

Elizabeth McCracken moves between novels, short fiction, memoir and writing about craft. A former public librarian, she has taught fiction and held the James A. Michener Endowed Chair in Writing. The Souvenir Museum is a story collection, while Bowlaway follows generations linked to a New England candlepin bowling alley. Niagara Falls All Over Again centres on a long-running comedy partnership, and The Hero of This Book uses a London walk to explore a writer’s memories of her mother while questioning the boundary between novel and memoir. McCracken returns to performance, family history and the odd objects through which people remember one another. The Giant’s House was a National Book Award finalist, and Thunderstruck & Other Stories won the Story Prize. An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination adds memoir to that range.
