Emma Raveling
Emma Raveling writes teen urban fantasy built from water mythology, magical factions, and a protagonist learning the cost of inherited power. The 2011 novel Whirl opens the Ondine Quartet and introduces Kendra Irisavie, a water elemental raised outside the established ondine community. Pursuit by Aquidae enemies and revelations about Kendra’s family draw her toward Lumière Academy, where training, hierarchy, and prophecy reshape her understanding of herself. Billow, Crest, and Breaker continue the four-volume main sequence, while companion stories expand its characters and history. Raveling later published Breaking Measures and material connected to the same imaginative world. Whirl combines a school setting with political conflict among supernatural groups, giving Kendra both an intimate identity problem and a wider responsibility. Its role as the first full novel matters because the vocabulary, alliances, and central prophecy developed there support every later installment in the Ondine Quartet.
