Erika L. Sanchez

1984

This hub and another spelled with an accent and no middle initial belong to the same writer, and each carries a different book. Crying in the Bathroom is the essay collection: growing up the daughter of undocumented Mexican immigrants outside Chicago, a depression severe enough to put her in hospital, and a good deal about sex, travel and money. Sánchez was a poet before the prose, and Lessons on Expulsion came first. She writes about being the first in her family to reach university and about what that costs on both sides of the arrangement.
