G.L. Carriger

G.L. Carriger is the name Gail Carriger uses for some of her science fiction and romance. The 5th Gender belongs to the Tinkered Stars universe and combines a space-station mystery with a relationship between human detective Drey Hastion and galoi expatriate Tristol. When a death aboard a galoi vessel reaches the station, the inquiry depends on understanding a culture organized around five genders and unfamiliar social rules. Carriger’s training in archaeology and anthropology informs that emphasis on language, kinship, and cultural interpretation. Her official reading guide identifies the book as a self-contained Tinkered Stars Mystery, separate from the adjacent Tinkered Starsong trilogy.
