Gabbie Stroud is an Australian writer and former primary school teacher whose nonfiction examines what education policy feels like inside a classroom. Teacher: One Woman’s Struggle to Keep the Heart in Teaching, published by Allen & Unwin in 2018, traces her teaching career from 1999 to 2015 and explains why she left the profession. The memoir grew from an essay in Griffith Review and critiques standardization, testing pressures, and administrative demands while keeping pupils, families, and classroom relationships in view. It earned a place on the Australian Book Industry Awards shortlist for Biography Book of the Year. Stroud later wrote Dear Parents, extending the conversation to families and the wider public.
