Gail Anderson-Dargatz is a Canadian novelist whose fiction often draws on rural communities, family memory, landscape, and the storytelling traditions of British Columbia’s Shuswap region. A Recipe for Bees follows Augusta through marriage, motherhood, beekeeping, and the recollection of choices that shaped her life; the novel reached the Giller Prize shortlist. Turtle Valley returns to the pressures of family history and place, and became a national bestseller. Anderson-Dargatz has written across literary fiction and domestic suspense, taught creative writing in the University of British Columbia’s program, and now works as a writing mentor and developmental editor. Her books are especially attentive to how ordinary work, inherited stories, and changing landscapes hold a community’s emotional history.
