F.M. Busby was an American science-fiction writer whose technical background preceded a second career in novels and short stories. All These Earths and The Breeds of Man are among his standalone books, separate from the linked Rissa Kerguelen, Cage a Man, and Slow Freight sequences. University library records date the first novel to 1978 and the second to 1988. Busby studied physics and electrical engineering at Washington State University, served in the United States Army, and worked in communications engineering before turning to fiction after early retirement. His publisher's author record counts eighteen novels and more than forty shorter works, including the collection Getting Home. The two books therefore belong to a broad speculative bibliography shaped by an engineer's interest in systems and technology, but they also show that Busby's career extended beyond the multi-volume settings for which he became best known.
