Giacomo Sartori is an Italian novelist, poet, dramatist, and agronomist whose scientific work with soils informs the precision and physical detail of his literary voice. Born in Trento, he trained in agricultural science, worked with international development agencies, and held a teaching role at Trento University. Restless Books published I Am God in English in 2019 in Frederika Randall's translation from Sartori's Italian novel Sono Dio. The comic, philosophical story gives its diary-like narration to a deity experiencing an unexpected emotional crisis after becoming fascinated by a human geneticist. Through that conceit, Sartori brings questions about faith, science, desire, and human fallibility into contact with laboratory work and ordinary contemporary life. I Am God was his first novel published in English and received the Italian Prose in Translation Award as well as a Foreword INDIES gold award for literary fiction. Sartori's other novels include Tritolo, Anatomia della battaglia, Sacrificio, Cielo nero, and Rogo, alongside several collections of stories.
