Harrison Mooney

Harrison Mooney is a Canadian journalist and memoirist whose work connects family history, faith, race, and cultural identity. Invisible Boy recounts his childhood as a Black adoptee raised by a white evangelical family near the United States border in British Columbia. Steerforth issued the United States edition in 2022, while HarperCollins Canada issued a subtitled edition. Mooney builds the narrative from home schooling, church life, and his eventual reconnection with his birth mother. Before publishing the memoir, he spent nearly a decade at the Vancouver Sun as a reporter, editor, and columnist. His newsroom experience supports precise observation and measured pacing. Invisible Boy won the 2023 Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Prize for nonfiction. It also reached finalist lists for two Canadian and American literary honors. This was his debut book.
