Albuquerque police work supplies the setting for the ABQ Heat novels, which Hayley B. James opened with Paid Leave in 2013 and continued with Polyester Prince the following year. Paid Leave puts a closeted officer on department-mandated leave after a shooting and follows what he does with the empty hours; Polyester Prince picks up a friend of that couple at PrideFest, where a fall in the crowd leaves him in the care of a bike patrolman he cannot afterwards identify. Her first book, Undercover Sins, appeared in 2011 through Dreamspinner Press and began the Secret Sins series. James writes male/male contemporary romance and lives in New Mexico.
