Ian Halperin

Ian Halperin is a Canadian investigative journalist, biographer, and documentary filmmaker whose work concentrates on celebrity, media institutions, and the construction of public image. Kardashian Dynasty, published by Gallery Books in 2016, traces the Kardashian and Jenner family's rise from legal and social prominence to reality television and global branding. Its subtitle, The Controversial Rise of America's Royal Family, signals Halperin's emphasis on publicity strategy and business decisions rather than a conventional family memoir. He reports from interviews, archival research, and media coverage while maintaining the outsider position of an unauthorized biographer. Halperin previously wrote or co-wrote books about figures in music and film and directed the documentary Gone Too Soon. His book Unmasked reached the top of the New York Times nonfiction list. Kardashian Dynasty brings those investigative habits to reality culture, examining how television exposure, tabloid attention, endorsement deals, and family management reinforced one another. The book belongs to his wider career of studying fame as an industry as well as a personal condition.
