Jane G. Austin
Jane Goodwin Austin (1831–1894) was an American novelist born in Worcester, Massachusetts, who published some two dozen books and a large body of short fiction. Her subject was colonial New England, drawn from her mother's Plymouth family stories and her own reading; her parents came from Plymouth, and the family traced eight separate lines back to Pilgrim settlers, though her antiquary father, Isaac Goodwin, died when she was two. She is remembered chiefly for her Plymouth novels, among them Standish of Standish (1889) and Betty Alden (1891). Emerson, Hawthorne and Louisa May Alcott were among her literary acquaintances.
