Jill Santopolo

The Light We Lost opens on 11 September 2001 at Columbia, where two students meet on a rooftop watching the smoke, and follows thirteen years of them finding and losing each other.

Santopolo works as an editorial director in children's publishing and wrote this, her first for adults, in second person addressed to him, which is a risk that mostly pays.

The ending divides readers sharply and is the reason book groups pick it. More Than Words followed with a similar structure.
