Joe Dispenza
1962
An American author and speaker whose books argue that sustained meditation can rewire habitual thought and, he claims, affect physical health. Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself and You Are the Placebo are the two most read.
Dispenza trained as a chiropractor and reached a wide audience through the 2004 film What the Bleep Do We Know!?. His writing borrows heavily from the vocabulary of neuroscience and quantum physics, and that borrowing has drawn sustained criticism from researchers who say the underlying claims are not supported by the evidence. Worth knowing before you start: these books sit in self-help, not in science.
