John Gray

1951

Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus sold in enormous quantities in the 1990s and gave a generation a vocabulary for arguing about arguing: caves, rubber bands, wave cycles.

The model treats gendered communication differences as close to essential rather than learned, which is where most of the criticism lands, and later research has not been kind to the strongest claims. Read as a period document about heterosexual marriage in the nineties it is genuinely interesting. Read as psychology it needs a good deal of salt.
