No More Mr Nice Guy came out of a therapy practice and describes a pattern in men who are agreeable, conflict-avoidant, quietly resentful, and covertly contracting: doing things for others while expecting an unstated payment in return.

Glover is a doctorate-level marriage and family therapist, and the book is aimed squarely at men raised to believe that being good would be reciprocated.

It has drawn criticism for a framing that some readers take as licence for selfishness, and it has been adopted by parts of the internet he does not obviously endorse. The clinical observation about hidden contracts is the durable part.
