Huysmans's later conversion to Catholicism reshaped both his subject matter and critical reputation. The label Sac Au Do points to an early military novella connected with the Naturalist collection Les Soirées de Médan. Across these works, he paired exact observation of rooms, objects, art, and ritual with narrators dissatisfied with ordinary social life.
