Charles Paul de Kock chronicled Parisian manners through plots, comic observation, romance, and the daily concerns of shopkeepers, clerks, artisans, and families. The Flower Girl of the Château d’Eau, Vol. 2 continues the entanglements surrounding Violette, Georget, and the Brévanne household. The Bath Keepers, v.2 carries forward a historical Paris story centered on Bathilde, Ambroisine, Léodgard, and competing claims of family honor. Paul and His Dog, v.2 moves between Chelles and the countryside as a mysterious landowner, his Newfoundland dog Ami, and two women gradually form bonds of trust. These English volumes belonged to the early twentieth-century Masterpieces of Charles-Paul de Kock series, translated by George Burnham Ives and published by G. Barrie & Sons. Their volume labels identify halves of longer novels, not separate sequels conceived as independent books. De Kock's popularity rested on accessible storytelling and recognizable social types. In these three continuations, misunderstandings and reputation repeatedly drive events, while Paris and its towns function as active social worlds rather than decorative backgrounds.
