Author: Julie Smith

Dr Julie Smith trained as a clinical psychologist and worked in the British National Health Service before setting up on her own, and roughly ten years of practice sit behind the short videos that made her widely known. She began posting brief, practical explanations of therapy techniques in 2019 and has since gathered more than ten million followers. Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before? (2022) is that material organised into chapters: what to do on a low day, how to take criticism, how anxiety works in the body, how to build motivation instead of waiting for it. It was the best selling non-fiction title in Britain that year, spent over a hundred weeks in the Sunday Times top ten, and has passed two million copies in some 45 languages. Her later book Open When also went to number one there. She has written for The Telegraph and the Evening Standard and appeared on BBC Breakfast and CNN International.
