Raworth drew a doughnut: an inner ring of social floors nobody should fall below, an outer ring of ecological ceilings the planet cannot exceed, and the safe space between them as the target. Doughnut Economics argues that growth in gross domestic product was never meant to be the goal and that economics teaching has not caught up with the last fifty years of evidence. She worked at the United Nations Development Programme and at Oxfam before Oxford, and several cities, Amsterdam among them, have adopted the framework officially.
