Laura Clery

Idiots: Marriage, Motherhood, Milk & Mistakes, published by Simon & Schuster in April 2022, is Laura Clery's second book of essays, picking up after Idiot with recovery meetings held over video during the pandemic, a marriage under strain and two small children. Born on 22 July 1986 in Downers Grove, Illinois, Clery built her audience playing characters such as Helen Smash in short comedy sketches on Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. The recovery material is drawn from her own history rather than from any clinical training, which she says plainly. She married the composer Stephen Hilton in 2012; they separated in 2022 and divorced the year after.
