Lindsay Ellis spent a decade making long-form video essays about film and storytelling before she published fiction. Born in Johnson City, Tennessee in 1984, she studied cinema at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and took an MFA in film and television production at USC. Her three-part study of Peter Jackson's Hobbit films, cut with Angelina Meehan, reached the 2019 Hugo shortlist for Best Related Work. Axiom's End, published in July 2020, was her first novel: an alternate 2007 in which a leak about extraterrestrial contact drops a young woman into the job of interpreter between two species. It entered the New York Times bestseller list at number seven and opened the Noumena sequence, continued by Truth of the Divine in 2021 and Apostles of Mercy in 2024. Ellis has also co-hosted the literature series It's Lit! for PBS Digital Studios with Princess Weekes.
