M.A. Comley
M.A. Comley develops British crime series that follow investigators across connected cases and evolving professional relationships. Also published as Mel Comley, she moved to France in 2002 and built an extensive independent-fiction career after that change. Cruel Justice opens the Justice sequence and introduces Detective Inspector Lorne Simpkins, the central figure in a series that grew to many volumes. Later books continue Lorne's work while allowing colleagues, family pressures, and the consequences of earlier investigations to accumulate. Comley's bibliography also includes the Hero, DI Sally Parker, DI Kayli Bright, and Intention series, each organized around a distinct investigative team. That sustained series structure is central to her appeal: readers enter through a clearly defined first case and then follow the characters through successive professional and personal changes. Cruel Justice remains the natural point of entry because it establishes Lorne's methods, working environment, and relationships before the wider Justice chronology expands around her.
