Matthew Perry

Played Chandler Bing for ten years while, by his own account, being unable to remember filming three of those seasons.

Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing is a memoir about addiction that refuses the recovery-story shape. He describes fourteen stomach surgeries, a colon that burst, months in a coma, and relapses that came after he had written the hopeful part. The book is uneven and occasionally unkind, including about himself, and that is what makes it worth reading rather than the celebrity. He died in October 2023, a year after it was published.
