Kate Holden turned a difficult period of her life into carefully observed memoir in her first book. In My Skin: A Memoir was published by Text Publishing in 2005 and recounts addiction, family strain, and recovery alongside the effort to rebuild stability. The book was shortlisted for the Dobbie Literary Award for a first published book and for the Australian Book Industry Awards' Australian Newcomer of the Year. Holden later wrote The Romantic: Italian Nights and Days, extending her autobiographical writing into travel and reflection. Her prose career has also included essays, criticism, and journalism.
