Megan Abbott
1971
Queenpin, Megan Abbott's third novel, took the 2008 Edgar Award for best paperback original. She grew up near Detroit, studied at Michigan, and holds a doctorate in English and American literature from NYU, where she has taught, as she has at SUNY and the New School. The Turnout, published in 2021 by G. P. Putnam's Sons, follows the twin sisters Dara and Marie Durant, who inherit their parents' ballet school and watch old family secrets work their way to the surface. It won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for mystery and thriller, and reached the International Thriller Writers shortlist for best hardcover the following year. Abbott has worked steadily in television too: a staff writer on HBO's The Deuce, then co-creator and, with Gina Fattore, co-showrunner of Dare Me, adapted from her own novel for USA Network.
