Michele Campbell prosecuted international drug and gang cases for the federal government in New York City, holding degrees from Harvard College and Stanford Law School, before the family moved to a New England college town where she taught criminal and constitutional law. Her fiction keeps to the territory she knows best: money, marriage, and what a spouse is willing to hide. Her first novel, It's Always the Husband, appeared in 2017, followed by She Was the Quiet One in 2018, A Stranger on the Beach in 2019 and The Intern in 2023. The Wife Who Knew Too Much, published in 2020, is set among the summer houses of the Hamptons: Connor Ford married the wealthy Nina Levitt and came into her fortune when she died, and his second wife Tabitha grows steadily less sure that the account she has been given of that death holds together.
