Miguel A. de la Torre
Miguel A. de la Torre is a scholar of social ethics and Latinx studies whose work examines religion from the perspectives of marginalized communities. He teaches at the Iliff School of Theology and has served as president of the Society of Christian Ethics. Liberation Theology for Armchair Theologians, published by Westminster John Knox Press in 2013, introduces liberation theology as a global movement rather than a single Latin American school. The book explains major themes, historical figures, interfaith forms, and the central role of praxis, with illustrations by Ron Hill. His broader scholarship includes Doing Christian Ethics from the Margins, Reading the Bible from the Margins, and studies of Cuban and Latinx religious life. His writing repeatedly connects theological interpretation with race, class, power, migration, and public responsibility. Liberation Theology for Armchair Theologians brings those concerns into an accessible survey for readers encountering the tradition for the first time. It also belongs to a publisher series designed to explain influential theological movements and thinkers without assuming specialist training.
