Morgan Thomas is a fiction writer whose debut collection, Manywhere, follows characters reshaping their names, bodies, histories, and relationships across the American South. MCD and Farrar, Straus and Giroux published the nine-story volume in 2022. Macmillan describes the collection as moving among a North Carolina sewing circle, a Tampa neighborhood, a Georgia museum, and other Southern settings while combining realism with moments of speculative transformation. Manywhere appeared among the finalists for the Lambda Literary Award for Transgender Fiction and the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize. Thomas earned an MFA from the University of Oregon, and individual stories have appeared in The Atlantic, American Short Fiction, The Kenyon Review, and other literary publications. The collection’s linked concerns emerge through varied narrators rather than a single continuous plot. Its regional detail, archival curiosity, and attention to chosen identity place Thomas within contemporary Southern short fiction while resisting a narrow definition of that tradition.
