Ned Vizzini
1981–2013
Vizzini was writing for the New York Press as a teenager and published a first book at nineteen. In 2004 he spent five days in a psychiatric hospital in Brooklyn, and It's Kind of a Funny Story, written in three weeks afterwards, comes straight out of it: a sixteen-year-old admits himself and finds the ward less frightening than the school he came from. He wrote for television, including Teen Wolf, and worked with Chris Columbus on children's fantasy. He died in December 2013, aged thirty-two.
