Philipp Dettmer

Founded the animation channel Kurzgesagt after studying information design, and Immune is the same method in print: an enormously complicated system explained through analogy without the analogies quietly lying to you.

The book walks the immune response from a splinter through the innate system, the adaptive system, antibodies and T cells, and is unusually honest about where immunology still does not know.

Dettmer is not a biologist and says so, and the book was reviewed by researchers before publication. Readers coming from the videos will recognise the voice, which is enthusiastic to a degree some find exhausting.
