Richard A. Goldsby taught biology at Amherst College and is one of four names on the fifth edition of Immunology, which W. H. Freeman published in 2002. The others are Thomas J. Kindt of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Barbara A. Osborne of Massachusetts Amherst, and Janis Kuby of San Francisco State, who wrote the first edition and died in 1997, before this one appeared; later editions carry her name in the title. The book is built around landmark experiments rather than around settled conclusions, which is most of why it took hold in teaching. Goldsby's own research was in immunology and cell biology.
