Richard Chenevix Trench (1807-1886) was an Anglican clergyman, poet, and philologist who rose to become Archbishop of Dublin. He is remembered chiefly for his popular studies of language, including On the Study of Words, which brought etymology and word history to a wide Victorian readership.
