Robert A. Johnson
1921–2018
Trained as a Jungian analyst and wrote three short books, He, She and We, each taking one myth and using it to explain a pattern of adult development.
He uses the Grail legend and Parsifal, She uses Psyche and Eros, We takes Tristan and Isolde and argues that romantic love is a modern religion that marriages cannot survive being asked to carry.
Owning Your Own Shadow is the shortest and most read: the rejected parts of a personality do not disappear, they accumulate, and they return as projection. He wrote for readers rather than for analysts.
