Tommy Caldwell
Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson free climbed the Dawn Wall of El Capitan in 2015, nineteen days on the rock, on a route most people thought could not go without aid. Six years earlier he had lost most of a finger to a table saw and been told to give up. In 1999 he and three other climbers were taken hostage by rebels in Kyrgyzstan, and he pushed a guard off a cliff so the group could escape; the guard survived, which Caldwell did not learn for years. The Push covers all of it, including the marriage that came apart in between.
