Wendy Holden

1965

Two British writers share this name and their work is regularly conflated. The Royal Governess, published in 2020 and issued in Britain as The Governess, is by the Wendy Holden born in 1965, who spent years at Tatler and then at the Mail on Sunday's You magazine and wrote ten bestselling comic novels before moving to historical fiction. Its subject is Marion Crawford, who taught the young Elizabeth and Margaret and was cut off by the royal family after publishing her account of those years. Born Survivors, from 2015, is by the Wendy Holden born in 1961, a reporter for eighteen years, ten of them at the Daily Telegraph, who has written or ghosted over forty books. It follows three women who were pregnant when they were sent to camps under the wartime German regime, and the three children who lived. Nothing beyond the shared name connects the two careers.
