About this book
20 Hrs., 40 Min presents Amelia Earhart’s account of a flight in the Friendship and describes how the chance to cross the Atlantic arrived by telephone. The narrator disputes newspaper stories about a year of planning, personal wealth and a mortgage on a homestead that did not exist. The account of flying describes how height flattens the landscape, making mountains appear less imposing and rough terrain comparatively smooth.
The discussion of cabin planes calls for adequate ventilation, explaining that opening windows can admit heat and sometimes motor fumes. The narrator also records the appeal of an air-cooled engine because eliminating the water cooling system meant simplification.
