About this book
35 Sonnets is credited to Fernando Pessoa. One sonnet says that whether we write or speak or do but look, we are ever unapparent, and that what we are cannot be transfused into word or book. A sonnet has the lines "We are our dreams of ourselves, souls by gleams, And each to each other dreams of others’ dreams."
Another sonnet likens the soul to a ship that storms urge on its course, and says our soul is made surer by its own trials. A further sonnet says the world is woven all of dream and error, and that but one sureness in our truth may lie. A sonnet asks "How many masks wear we, and undermasks, Upon our countenance of soul, and when, If for self-sport the soul itself unmasks."
