About this book
A Brief Grammar of the Portuguese Language with Exercises and Vocabularies is by John Casper Branner. The grammar says adjectives have gender, number, and degree of comparison, and agree in gender and number with their nouns, as in mulher sensata, a sensible woman. The grammar explains that the word vez, time, is used with the cardinal numerals to express multiplication, giving uma vez, once, duas vezes, twice, and tres vezes, three times.
The book includes a passage of connected prose that names Affonso I and gives the date 6 de dezembro de 1185. The grammar gives a table headed SINGULAR MEANING PLURAL MEANING, in which bem means well, good and bens means property.
