About this book
The book A companion to Mr. Wells's Outline of history lists chapters, among others, Mr. Wells and the Creation of the World, Whence came Religion to Man? and Buddhism as a Stick with which to Beat the Christian. The text says that the Modernist of this type, trying desperately to combine incompatible things, shows two marks invariably: he is muddle-headed, and he does violence to sane judgment upon testimony. The text says Mr. Wells no longer believes in Our Lord's Divinity, but wants to go on feeling that He made all the difference.
The text calls Cobbett's History of the Reformation a first-rate piece of literary work but bad history, because in his hatred of the Reformation he accepts anything against it. The text calls the putting forward of a statement as universal when as a fact it is just the opposite, as absurdly simple so that it can be easily swallowed, and with a motive which is not acknowledged a thoroughly unscientific way of going to work.
