About this book
A Description of Modern Birmingham is a book by Charles Pye. Annexed to the description are observations made during an excursion round the town in the summer of 1818, including Warwick and Leamington. Charles Pye is described as the man who compiled a Dictionary of Ancient Geography.
The writer says he was born in the year 1749. The writer is convinced that the extensive trade now carried on in this town is principally to be attributed to the enterprising spirit of the late Matthew Boulton. The text says the town is situated near the centre of the kingdom, in the north west extremity of the county of Warwick. The text says that Shustock is a village situated three miles from Coleshill, on the road to Atherstone, noticed as the birthplace of the celebrated antiquarian Sir William Dugdale.
