A Happy Woman by Amy Le Feuvre carries the line "The joy of the Lord is your strength" on its title page. In one passage Sara arrives at night after missing her train at the junction, and a driver takes her up a frosty road in a high dog-cart. The road climbs a hillside above a ravine with a winding river below, and then a lake appears in the moonlight, its larches and firs frosted, wild ducks flying across and owls calling. Sara cries out with delight at the sight.
The book also names Ina, May and a place called Felstone Corner, where Ina is told she will not be allowed to leave until she is plumper. In one conversation May tells Sara she understands why Sara is such a persistently happy person, and thanks her for sharing her wonderful secret. Chapter IX, A Day of Sunshine, opens with May soon finding a settlement in which she establishes herself.
