About this book
A History of England, Period III. Constitutional Monarchy covers the period from 1689 to 1837, with William and Mary named in the account of its scope. The account of Dundee describes clans already armed over their own quarrels when he arrives in the neighbourhood. Dundee considers using hostility towards the Campbells to unite the clans, nominally at least in support of King James.
The account of Mackay describes regular soldiers unable to overcome the rapid Highlanders in the mountains and his proposal for forts across the country. A battle narrative describes the two extremes of an enveloping English line firing on each other in darkness because they have come so close together. The discussion of the Catholics records common cause with the United Irish and a search by the bolder spirits for assistance from France.
