A New Philosophy: Henri Bergson is a book by Edouard Le Roy, translated from the French by Vincent Benson. The preface says the book is due to two articles published under the same title in the Revue des Deux Mondes on 1st and 15th February 1912. The preface says the author has reprinted the articles intact and has added, in the form of continuous notes, some additional explanations on points which did not come within the scope of investigation in the original sketch.
The text names "Matter and Memory", a study of perception and recollection, and, from 1907, "Creative Evolution", in which the new metaphysic was outlined in its full breadth. The text says that conducting scientific research always in the same grooves and according to the same formulae would meet symbolism and relativity, since life is progress, whilst the geometrical method is commensurable only with things. The text says that, in order to grasp the complex content of reality, the mind must, among other things, awaken its sleeping powers of revealing sympathy.
