About this book
A New Voyage Round the World by a Course Never Sailed Before is by Daniel Defoe. The title page calls it a voyage undertaken by some Merchants, who afterwards proposed the Setting up an East-India Company in Flanders. The text says it has for some ages been thought so wonderful a thing to sail the tour or circle of the globe that a man who has done this mighty feat presently thinks it deserves to be recorded like Sir Francis Drake's.
The narrator's company put back to Port St. Julian, where they were not able to stir for some time, and stood south again past the mouth of the Straits of Magellan, a strait famous for many years. The narrator reports that, though the company stayed but thirteen days, they killed three hundred and seventy goats. The text describes men who found the water began to spread over the flat ground again, and who were obliged to wade knee deep before they reached the hillock where their tent stood.
