About this book
In A Philanthropist, by Josephine Daskam Bacon, Miss Gould speaks with some irritation to her lodger. Miss Gould mentions a Tom Waters whom she had at the Reformed Drunkards' League last year. The lodger bows with the grace that characterized all his lazy movements. Miss Gould says she must tell Henry to pile the wood again in the east corner, and that another tramp will probably come very soon.
A man named Mr. Waters remarks triumphantly as he summons his second pair of twins from the yard. Miss Gould is described as looking her best in a crisp lavender dimity. A speaker tells dear Miss Gould of having grown so tremendously fond of her, and adds the thought that she does not dislike the speaker.
