About this book
A Record of Study in Aboriginal American Languages is by Daniel G. Brinton, Professor of American Archæology and Linguistics in the University of Pennsylvania. The prefatory note calls the text a review of the author's own work in the field of American Linguistics, and says its preparation was suggested by his late friend, Mr. James Constantine Pilling. One numbered list gives titles such as On Polysynthesis and Incorporation as characteristics of American Languages and The Rate of Change in American Languages.
Other entries name A Primer of Mayan Hieroglyphics and The Güegüence, a Comedy Ballet in the Nahuatl-Spanish Dialect of Nicaragua. A run of alphabetical entries names Choctaw Grammar, Cholona, Costa Rica, Iroquois, Jivaro and Kechua, among others.
