About this book
A Short History of Women's Rights is by Eugene A. Hecker and runs from the days of Augustus to the present time, with special reference to England and the United States. The preface says that, as far as the author could discover, no one had ever attempted to give a succinct account of the matter for English-speaking nations. The preface to the second edition says a chapter has been added, bringing down to date the record of the contest for equal suffrage.
The text says the Roman marriage was a purely civil contract based on consent, and that no husband was allowed to have a concubine. A list of dates records 1911 California Full suffrage, 1912 Oregon Full suffrage and 1914 Iceland Full suffrage. The text says that at the present moment the cause of woman suffrage in England is being furthered chiefly by two organizations which differ in methods, one of them the National Women's Social and Political Union.
