About this book

Adrift in the Ice-Fields is a book by Charles Winslow Hall. The preface says that the book attempts to chronicle the adventures and misadventures of a party of English gentlemen, during the early spring, while shooting sea-fowl on the sea-ice by day. The preface gives its aim as opening to the youth of America a knowledge of some of the winter sports of our neighbors of the maritime provinces.

One speaker says that few who have sailed the Gulf have failed to see the Fireship which haunts these waters. A character announces that they are adrift and getting well out into the Gulf and says that the boys must be found and their oars and boat got. The floes are described as crowded with living seals, while ravenous sea-birds flutter over the multitude of frozen bodies.
