Adventures on the Roof of the World is a book by Mrs. Aubrey Le Blond. In a quoted account, the narrator learned that Zurbriggen, the moment the narrator fell, had snatched up the coil of rope which lay at his feet. The narrator says that two strands of the rope had been cut through by the falling rock. The text says that there are many grades of Alpine guides, a point amusingly exemplified once upon a time at the Montanvert.
The text has a party facing a grim and grisly little pinnacle on the west face of the mountain. The text says a light in a châlet near Ferpécle shone like a beacon for some hours.
